Contraindications

The importance of contraindications: They ensure the safety, effectiveness, and personalization of laser treatments, while minimizing risks and side effects.

Contraindications for Laser Treatments

Laser hair removal is safe and effective, but in some situations, it is better not to undergo treatment to prevent complications and ensure your safety. Below you will find an overview of circumstances in which laser treatment is not recommended:

  • Diabetes, skin cancer, or blood diseases: Persons with these conditions cannot be treated.

  • Skin problems: Active infections, open wounds, eczema, psoriasis, or skin and vein inflammation on the area to be treated must be healed first.

  • Medication use: Medications such as antibiotics, retinoids (for example, Roaccutane), antidepressants, and certain herbal preparations (such as St. John's wort) can make the skin hypersensitive to light. Wait at least two weeks after a course of antibiotics or six months after using Roaccutane. Anti-inflammatory drugs such as Prednisone also inhibit the skin's healing process.

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Laser treatment is not recommended during pregnancy due to hormonal fluctuations. Treatment is sometimes possible during breastfeeding, but only after consultation.

  • Hormonal disorders: Conditions such as PCOS or other hormonal fluctuations can affect effectiveness, and extra sessions are often required.

  • Cancer or radiation: If you have recently undergone radiation or had cancer therapy, your skin may react differently. Always discuss this with a doctor.

  • Recent sunbathing or sunbed use: Tanned skin (exposed less than two weeks ago) is more susceptible to side effects such as sunburn or pigmentation spots.

  • Tattoos or permanent make-up: Treatments on skin with tattoos or permanent make-up are not possible due to the risk of damage.

  • Cold sore (herpes simplex): Wait until an active cold sore is completely healed.

  • Botox or fillers: Wait at least four months after a Botox treatment. Fillers can break down more quickly; permanent fillers in the upper lip are a contraindication.

  • Hypersensitivity or allergies: Laser treatment is not recommended for medical conditions such as lupus or photosensitivity.

  • Implants or metals in the body: In the case of metal implants in the area to be treated, the laser may generate heat that causes discomfort. Consult a specialist.

  • Age limit: Treatments for persons under the age of 18 can only be performed with the consent of parents or guardians.

If you are unsure whether laser treatment is suitable, we recommend always consulting a doctor first. Your safety comes first!
