Contraindications
The importance of contraindications: They ensure the safety, effectiveness, and personalization of laser treatments while minimizing risks and side effects.
Contraindications for Laser Treatments
Laser hair removal is safe and effective, but in some situations, it's best not to undergo treatment to avoid complications and ensure your safety. Below is an overview of circumstances in which laser hair removal is not recommended:
- Diabetes, skin cancer or blood diseases: People with these conditions cannot be treated.
- Skin problems: Active infections, open wounds, eczema, psoriasis or skin and vein inflammation on the area to be treated must have healed first.
- Medication use: Medications such as antibiotics, retinoids (e.g., Roaccutane), antidepressants, and certain herbal remedies (e.g., St. John's wort) can make the skin hypersensitive to light. Wait at least two weeks after a course of antibiotics or six months after Roaccutane use. Anti-inflammatory drugs like prednisone also inhibit the skin's healing process.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Laser treatment is not recommended during pregnancy due to hormonal fluctuations. Treatment is sometimes possible during breastfeeding, but only after consultation.
- Hormonal conditions: Conditions such as PCOS or other hormonal fluctuations can affect effectiveness, and additional sessions are often required.
- Cancer or radiation: If you've recently undergone radiation or cancer therapy, your skin may react differently. Always discuss this with a doctor.
- Recent sunbathing or tanning bed use: Tanned skin (exposed less than two weeks ago) is more sensitive to side effects such as burning or pigment spots.
- Tattoos or permanent make-up: Treatments on skin with tattoos or permanent make-up are not possible due to the risk of damage.
- Cold sores (herpes simplex): Wait until an active cold sore has completely healed.
- Botox or fillers: Wait at least four months after Botox treatment. Fillers can break down faster; permanent fillers in the upper lip are contraindicated.
- Hypersensitivity or allergies: If you have a medical condition such as lupus or photosensitivity, laser treatment is not recommended.
- Implants or metals in the body: With metal implants in the area to be treated, the laser can generate heat that causes discomfort. Consult a specialist.
- Age limit: Treatments for persons under the age of 18 are only possible with the permission of parents or guardians.
If you have any doubts about the suitability of laser treatment, we recommend always consulting a doctor first. Your safety is our top priority!
